Description
Aqua One Air Stone - Ceramic 50mm Ball
Ceramic stones are highly effective for biological filtration due to their porous structure, which offers a large surface area for beneficial bacteria. Their durability, chemical stability, and ease of maintenance make them an excellent choice for maintaining a healthy and balanced aquarium ecosystem. These attributes help ensure a stable environment for fish and other aquatic life, leading to better water quality and overall aquarium health.
Benefits
1. Superior Weight (Stability)
A round 50mm ceramic ball is significantly heavier and denser than a thin 70mm cylinder.
-
The Problem: 70mm cylinders are light; when a powerful pump like yours blasts air through them, they tend to "walk" across the pond floor or float sideways.
-
The Benefit: 50mm balls stay where you put them. They anchor themselves to the bottom of the pond without needing extra weights or suction cups (which don't work on pond liners anyway).
2. Better Bubble Dispersion
The spherical shape allows air to escape in a 360-degree pattern.
-
Instead of a single "wall" of bubbles from a cylinder, you get a "fountain" of bubbles.
-
This provides better water circulation in a round pond, as it pulls water from all directions toward the stone and then pushes it upward.
3. Resistance to Clogging
Pond water has more organic "muck" than an indoor aquarium.
-
The Difference: Round stones have a larger internal "air chamber." This means they take much longer to clog up with algae or biofilm compared to the thinner 15mm-wide cylinders. You’ll find yourself cleaning them much less often.
